Our Story

We are a unique furniture store that offers high-end, designer pieces at discounted prices.

We feature new-in-box, first quality items, warehouse liquidations, floor samples, scratch and dents, customer returns, and one-of-a-kinds.

Our 21,000 sq. ft. warehouse is a funky space with a Chicago-loft-meets-industrial-chic vibe and is located in the heart of Valparaiso, Indiana. We've been providing beautiful furniture to our clients for over 13 years and are super excited to announce we are now sharing these in-store goodies with the online community! You'll find an eclectic selection of fabulous treasures from all over the world. To know us is to love us and our goal is to offer our customers the best products at deeply discounted prices.

  
  2006 –

  In September of 2006, things were changing for Amanda and Shayne.

As a couple leading busy careers, two children at the time, and everything that goes along with it, to say their lives were hectic would be an understatement. After becoming pregnant with their third child, Amanda knew it was time to make some big changes. She left her job to spend time with her children, and decided she was ready to open her own business soon after. She told her husband they would be opening a furniture store unlike anything in the area. Knowing what the local stores had to offer and utilizing her own skills with power tools, she felt she could create a thriving franchise.

After spending almost 8 months of early mornings and late nights scouring through craigslist, garbage picking, and perusing flea markets, Homenclature was ready to open its doors in May of 2008. To their astonishment, they had sold almost everything thing in their stockpile within the first two months. With business booming, Amanda began sourcing inventory from warehouses, distribution centers, shipping companies and furniture manufacturers. As it turns out, there's a lot of broken stuff laying around in warehouses. Quickly they doubled the size of their store, bought a box truck, and hired a repair man to keep up with their steadily growing demand.

  2011 –

  In 2011, Amanda and Shayne built their dream home in Valpo, bringing Homenclature with them. Now proudly sitting in a 30,000 sq. ft. warehouse, Homenclature continues to provide amazing furniture to the people of northwest Indiana, and with a new location in Carmel, business is only getting bigger and better. They have since been traveling all over the world working to acquire unique, one-of-a-kind items to expand our selection and create a more global vibe at our customers fingertips.
